We all want to be successful. Maybe your goal is to get that job you’ve been wanting for a while, or maybe it is to finally start getting in shape. Whatever your end goal is, it takes hard work and a LOT of motivation to get going, and we all know that that’s much easier said than done. It is extremely important for you to work daily on staying mentally healthy and ready to chase after your dreams. With that being said, here are a few things that might be holding you back from getting up and pursuing your objectives!

1. The desire to be perfect

In today’s world, you’ll hear about the success stories of others one way or another, thanks to social media. While it’s easy to focus on the journeys of others and beat yourself up over how they compare to yours, remember: no one shares their downsides, and there is NO SUCH THING AS PERFECT. It is useless to chase after something that doesn’t exist. Set realistic goals, limit your screen time, and don’t let the shadow of yours dim your spotlight.

2. Working nonstop

Work hard, but don’t become a workaholic. You are not a robot. Set up a schedule, and dedicate some time to just do nothing. We are not made of steel. Our bodies and minds need rest. Making sure you have a work pace that works for you will help you find balance and prevent a burnout, which would take much longer to recover from.

3. Impatience

One of the biggest mistakes we all make when we begin working towards a goal is to expect instant results. You are not going to magically change your GPA after one night of studying, nor will you get a six pack after hitting the gym a couple times. Positive results require a slow and steady journey, and patience is key. Do not allow yourself to stagnate, but also understand that things take time and that the wait is worth it.

On the flip side, here are three things to FUEL your motivation

1. Self-care on a daily basis

No matter how many things you go on to achieve, they should never come before your own physical and mental health. Motivation is synonymous with mental strength. Treat yourself, eat well, and sleep well. Go for a spa day, have a photoshoot, whatever makes you feel confident and empowered. There is more than enough time in a day to check up on yourself. If you’re feeling great, you’re guaranteed to produce great work!

2. Reminders of what you are working towards

Don’t let yourself lose sight of your ultimate goals. Like I said earlier, results take time and effort, and it is easy to get lost within the process and feel like giving up. So put up some sticky notes, set reminders on your phone, or add stepping stone objectives to your calendar. Remember why you are doing what you’re doing.

3. Good company

There will always be people out there who judge you, don’t believe in you, or wish on your downfall. Keep a sharp eye out for them and a safe distance. Instead, focus your energy on friends who support you, motivate you and are happy to see you succeed. It doesn’t hurt if they’re also grinding towards their own goals! This generation is all about supporting one another and lifting each other up.

In conclusion: Finding motivation is a process that is renewed each day. It comes with patience and self-care. Stay away from the first three pointers, listen to the three points of advice, and you should be on the right track. You got this!
