When thinking of social media, it is considered a new innovation that allows us to make new friends, post selfies and share content. It seems very simple but it isn’t.
We hide behind the screens and portray a life online, and allow others to see and judge us for the lives we show to the other people. But will you post an unappealing photo online? Or will you post a group activity you do not want other people to see? It is true that social media only portray the highlights of our lives, concealing all other moments that we don't want to share thus creating a false reality.
There are a few reasons which make the user behave in a fake manner on social media. Firstly, it is easy to detect and secondly, it is hard to realize about yourself. You hate certain people but continue to add them in your social media account and they continue seeing your feeds. They like and comment on our photos, and want us to do the same.
So, it we do not like certain people, why do we allow them to live on our feeds and gain our personal information and activities of the day? It is so because we want to prove something online. Our real lives are not so interesting but we want to post cool photos online.
Social media is a world in itself. We want to create a life in this world where we can do whatever we want and achieve great things in life. It is the world where we can escape the realities of life. Life was much easier when we didn’t need to prove anything to anyone else.
Social media is a place where we need to show people how we live in our real lives. Here we can post pictures cleaning our room or shaving our dogs. Where we can post a selfie of the morning face when we rise up from bed. But we will not do so in reality. Maybe, it is so because we want to show perfect lives on screen.
Social media twists our insight of reality. It is different when you see someone face to face versus when you see them online behind the screens. Also, we do not like other people’s opinions and thoughts but we hit the like button instantly when someone posts news of his new baby or pathetic service at the restaurant.
Do we really care about the lives of other people so much? We do not like the thought of 200 people coming over to tell us that they like the photo of our cat playing with the woolen ball. So, how can you filter out someone you know is fake and posts images that do not depict his real life? It is easy if you see them in person versus their amazing lives behind the screens.
All we see are the doctored images of slim and toned ladies doing yoga near an exotic beach, or men flaunting their enormous muscles and six abs in gym building. The images need to be amazing enough to gather followers and likes. Also, we can bully someone behind the screens and harass a girl without being caught. The toxicity of social media has become as part of our daily lives.
So, many of us do not have perfect lives. So why we portray it online? Maybe we see fulfilment in our lives this way... who knows.
The bottom line is... do not believe anything you see on social media. It is fake.
